South Carolina man was killed and three are charged with murder, officials say

A man was recently killed in South Carolina and three people have been charged with murder, according to the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office.

Jamar Johnson, a 41-year-old Orangeburg resident, was shot and killed Sept. 8, Orangeburg County Coroner Sean Fogle said.

On Sept. 11, 40-year-old Ivy Banks, 38-year-old David Jones and 33-year-old Hector Vallejo each were charged with murder, first-degree burglary and criminal conspiracy, according to the sheriff’s office. Additionally, Jones and Vallejo both were charged with possession of a weapon during a violent crime, the sheriff’s office said.

The charges are connected to the Sept. 8 shooting, according to the sheriff’s office.

At about 2 a.m. on Sept. 8, deputies responded to a call about a shooting on Seawright Street, the sheriff’s office said.

Johnson, who lived on Seawright Street, was found there and died at the scene, according to the coroner’s office. An autopsy confirmed that Johnson had been shot, the coroner’s office said.

No other injuries were reported.

There was no word about any prior connection between Johnson and the trio of Banks, Jones and Vallejo, but the death continues to be investigated, Fogle said.

“There is absolutely no sense in this,” Sheriff Leroy Ravenell said in a news release. “These people must live in a fairytale world if they think there are no consequences for taking a man’s life.”
