A long-running restaurant known for sushi and more announced its closure in a popular Columbia district.

SakiTumi Grill & Sushi Bar, located at 807 Gervais St. in the Vista hospitality district, announced its closure in a lengthy Sept. 17 Facebook post, noting the farewell comes with “the heaviest of hearts.” The business had been open since 2006.
“To our community: thank you,” SakiTumi’s closure post on social media said. “Thank you for choosing us for your celebrations, your date nights, your family dinners, and even those nights when you just needed somewhere to unwind. Thank you for your loyalty, your kindness, your support, and for allowing us to be a part of your lives for the last 20 years.
“Every visit, every recommendation, every kind word, and every person who walked through our doors meant more than you will ever know.”

This marks the third closure of a sushi restaurant in downtown Columbia in recent months, following Camon’s exit from Assembly Street and TakoSushi’s farewell on Main Street, both of which came in July.
SakiTumi has been known for its deep menu of sushi, creative cocktails, hibachi stir-fry and more.
“We are going to miss the familiar faces,” SakiTumi said in its Facebook post that offered praise for customers, ownership, employees and others. “We are going to miss the sounds of the restaurant, the laughter, the late nights, and the little moments that made every day different. We are going to miss the people who became part of our everyday lives.”
