A Midlands school district said evidence indicated a threat against a local high school was not credible, despite a heavy police presence Thursday afternoon.

Lexington High School went into lockdown after a threat was called into the school, the Lexington 1 school district said in an email that went out shortly after 1 p.m.
At about 2 p.m., school officials notified parents that the lockdown was being lifted, and the building was safe. The campus was expected to be reopened as well, according to officials.
Students were being dismissed on schedule, the school district said in a follow-up email, and counselors will be available on campus Friday to help students or staff with what they experienced.
“We encourage families to check in with their students this evening and give them space to talk about what they experienced and how they are feeling,” the email said.
No details on the nature of the threat were provided, but the high school was in lockdown Thursday afternoon as law enforcement checked the campus.
In an update emailed about 30 minutes later, the school district said that “law enforcement investigators have found evidence to indicate the threat is not credible.”
At that time, the school remained locked down as officers searched the campus to clear it of any active threat.

There were no reports of an active shooter on campus or of any injuries, the school district said.
In a post on X, the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department said the call appeared to have come from out of state.

No one other than law enforcement was allowed onto campus during the lockdown.
Police had entrances to the campus blocked off Thursday. Some students were seen gathered across the street along Olde Farm Road waiting to be picked up by their parents.
After the lockdown was lifted, witnesses saw police vehicles leaving and no longer blocking the entrances.
Other parents and family members were parked along U.S. 1 and gathered in the Lowes Foods gas station parking lot.
