A pedestrian was killed Friday night after being struck by a pickup truck in Aiken County, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The collision happened around 8:50 p.m. on S.C. 421 near Church Street, according to a news release. The pedestrian was attempting to cross the roadway while walking east when the person was hit by a 2025 Chevrolet pickup traveling south, Master Trooper Mitchell Ridgeway said.
The pedestrian — identified as 59-year-old Robert Broome of Jackson, S.C. — died at the scene, according to the Aiken County Coroner’s Office. The pickup driver was not injured, the release said.

The collision remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol, the release said.
