A Midlands woman is half a million dollars richer after her impulse to buy a scratch-off lottery ticket paid off, according to South Carolina Education Lottery officials.

The Sumter woman was pumping gas into her vehicle when she decided to purchase a $10 lottery game, officials said in a news release. The ticket turned out to be a winner, and she captured the game’s $500,000 grand prize, according to the release.
“I feel rich,” she said in the release. “It’s amazing.”
She bought the six-figure winning Gold Vault Extra Play! game at the Refuel gas station/convenience store on Manning Road in Sumter, officials said.
The woman didn’t say how she plans to spend her newfound windfall.
The winner will be allowed to retain some privacy, as South Carolina is one of 11 states — along with Arizona, Delaware, Georgia, Kansas, Maryland, New Jersey, North Dakota, Ohio, Texas and Virginia — that allow lottery winners to remain anonymous.
It was one of the lottery game’s five grand prize winning tickets, officials said. One more Gold Vault Extra Play! ticket carrying a grand prize is still unclaimed.

The winner overcame 1,176,000-to-1 odds to capture the game’s jackpot, according to the release.
The Refuel on Manning Road in Sumter received a $5,000 commission for selling the claimed ticket.
