Residents from across South Carolina are sharing their reactions to the sonic boom that could be heard all over the state and in parts of Georgia. The U.S. Geological Survey confirmed that the event was not an earthquake and was “consistent with a sonic boom.”

Midlands residents who were caught outside were alarmed by the boom that some said could be heard in parts of Georgia.

Residents also noted a streak across the sky, which some speculate to be from a meteor. The cause of the sonic boom is not confirmed yet.
Some people were able to capture the boom — and the brief ground tremor — on camera.
