SC man charged with attempted murder of a sheriff’s deputy during a burglary

A South Carolina man was charged with attempted murder of a deputy earlier this year, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division announced.

An Aiken deputy was responding to an in-progress burglary call on March 6, 2026, according to an arrest warrant. The deputy encountered Jacob Harrison Craven, 32, at the back of the residence when Craven turned and ran fled back inside the residence, and the deputy chased him. The deputy found Craven in a bedroom, when Craven brandished a gun and pressed it to the deputy’s torso.

According to the arrest warrant, it was done with the intent to kill.

Craven was charged with attempted murder on Thursday and was booked at the Aiken County Detention Center.

The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office requested the SLED investigation.

The 2nd Circuit Solicitor’s Office will prosecute the case.
