Here’s who won Tuesday’s Democratic primary for a York County SC Senate seat

Chad Williams won the special Democratic primary election Tuesday leading up to the November general election for York County’s S.C. Senate District 15, state election figures show.

Williams easily defeated Monika White with 84% of the votes cast, according to unofficial results from the S.C. Election Commission web site.

Williams had 1,447 votes to 276 for White, election figures showed. About 2.1% of around 80,000 registered voters in District 15 participated.

Williams, a former York County Council member from 2009 to 2018, now faces Republican James Burns in the November general election.

District 15 covers parts of York County, including areas of Rock Hill.

District 15 is the seat currently held by Republican Wes Climer. Climer resigned the seat, effective this November, because he is running in the November election for U.S. Congress District 5.

State senators serve four-year terms. The winner in November will fill the balance of the District 15 unexpired term that runs through 2028.
