On Wednesday, 38-year-old Allendale resident Radrick “Peanut” Latron Outing Jr., was found guilty of murder as well as possession of a weapon during commission of a violent crime, the solicitor’s office said in a news release.

He was sentenced to 35 years in a South Carolina Department of Corrections prison for shooting his unarmed cousin three times, including in the head, following a 2024 party, according to the release.

An argument about who would drive Outing home following the party led to the deadly shooting, the solicitor’s office said.

At about 5 a.m. on Dec. 15, 2024, deputies with Allendale County Sheriff’s Office were called to the home of William Outing, who was identified as the shooting victim, according to the release. William Outing was found dead in the yard of his Ozzie Street home, the solicitor’s office said.

Witnesses told investigators that the Outings and other family members had been hanging out and drinking all night, according to the release. A female relative was about to take Radrick Outing home, but William Outing came out of his home and wanted to drive, the solicitor’s office said. Both Radrick Outing and the female objected, prompting William Outing to order everyone to get out of his yard, according to the release.

Radrick Outing confronted his cousin, pulling a handgun on him, then firing a shot into the ground, the solicitor’s office said. The victim and one of the witnesses retreated near a tree, but when William Outing then tried to run away, his cousin fired several more shots and William Outing fell to the ground, according to the release.

Radrick Outing walked past him, paused, then shot his cousin in the head, the solicitor’s office said.

One witness remained on the scene, called 911 and identified a man named “Peanut” as the shooter, according to the release. Radrick Outing’s father confirmed that his son’s nickname is Peanut and told officers where they could find him, and Outing Jr. was located at a home on Ellis Street, the solicitor’s office said.

Radrick Outing Jr. admitted he brought his gun to the home, and authorities were led to his 9mm handgun hidden under a footstool, according to the release. The gun had one cartridge in the chamber but an empty magazine, the solicitor’s office said.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division assisted in the investigation and recovered at least seven shell casings from the scene of the gunfire, according to the release. At Radrick Outing Jr.’s trial, experts testified that those shell casings found matched Outing’s gun and that gunshot residue was found on his hands, hat, hoodie, T-shirt, jeans and shoes, the solicitor’s office said. The defendant’s DNA also was detected on the grip of the handgun, according to the release.

Following two days of testimony at the Allendale Courthouse, Judge Carmen Mullen handed down the sentence, the solicitor’s office said.

“What began as a family disagreement escalated into a deadly act of violence when Radrick Outing pulled a gun and shot his unarmed cousin,” Assistant Solicitor Reed Evans, who prosecuted the case for the solicitor’s office, said in the release. “William Outing tried to get away, but his cousin continued firing. This conviction ensures that Outing is held accountable for that choice and the life he took.”

Assistant Solicitor Kristin Perez also prosecuted the case. Attorney Stephen Plexico was listed as Radrick Outing Jr.’s lawyer, Allendale County court records show.

Radrick Outing Jr. has a lengthy criminal record that dates to 2005 and includes offenses in South Carolina and Florida, the solicitor’s office said. It includes convictions for conspiracy, sale of a controlled substance, cocaine possession, sale of an illicit substance, third-degree domestic violence, possession of crack, cruelty to children and giving false information, according to the release.
