Two men were killed after being hit by a train in the Midlands, according to the Orangeburg County Coroner’s Office.

The Hispanic men, ages 26 and 29, were fatally injured after being struck by a train near Tee Vee Road and Old Number Six Highway in Elloree, according to a news release. The names of the deceased have not yet be released, pending notification of next of kin, according to Orangeburg County Coroner Sean Fogle.
Train workers traveling west noticed what appeared to be a body near the tracks at about 4:50 p.m. on Wednesday. Responding officials found two victims with multiple blunt-force injuries consistent with being struck by a moving train, the release said.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the release.
Investigators believe the men were struck Tuesday night, likely between 10 and 11 p.m., when railroad officials confirmed a train passed through the area, the release said.
The coroner’s office is investigating with the South Carolina Highway Patrol and railway representatives. Further details were not immediately available.
