In what could be one of Miami-Dade County’s most egregious animal abuse cases, a local Miami Beach Facebook page was lit ablaze Tuesday with questions and accusations over a post depicting a dead dog tied to a concrete block in a body of water possibly near Coconut Grove.

The post is littered with vague details and graphic images, making the truth of the claim unclear. Within two hours, the Miami Beach Police Department had it on its radar and began getting to the bottom of the possible crime.
Barbie Wynn took to her Facebook account shortly after 1 p.m. to post four paragraphs, a video and photo of the alleged dog abuse.
“This dog was found on a sunken sailboat in the water, in the main channel just before entering the docks,” she wrote, not making clear which dock or where in the main channel that connects Miami and Miami Beach.
The video shows the medium-sized dog floating just under the water, chained by the legs to a cinder block. The photo depicts the dog out of the water, still chained, with clear marks of decomposition.
Wynn could not be reached for comment.
At least two hours after the post was made, Miami Beach police commented on the post that it is “…aware of a social media post depicting an incident involving suspected animal cruelty.”
Although the agency has begun an investigation, it said nothing has been “formally reported” to the department.

“We take animal cruelty seriously and appreciate the community’s assistance in bringing this matter to our attention,” police said.
Miami Beach detectives and an animal resource officer worked to confirm the authenticity of the claim and the location, said Officer Christopher Bess, spokesman for the agency.
They discovered the incident happened in the Coconut Grove area of the City of Miami. Miami Beach police handed the case over, and Miami police are now investigating the “disturbing video.”
“Detectives are actively investigating the incident and following up on leads to determine the circumstances surrounding the case and to identify the individual responsible,” Miami police said.
Miami-Dade County Animal Services told the Miami Herald it went to where the dog was found; however, it could not yet provide details on the dog’s origin or whether it had an owner.
Authorities are asking anyone with information to call the Miami Police Department at 305-579-6111.
