Woman shot in parking lot of bar in South Carolina, Richland County sheriff says

A woman was shot early Wednesday morning outside a bar in South Carolina, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

At about 5:45 a.m., deputies responded to reports of a shooting at 851 Bush River Road, which is McCary’s Restaurant and Grill, the sheriff’s department said Thursday in a news release. That’s in a part of Columbia between Broad River Road and I-26.

Deputies learned that the woman who was shot in the upper body was driving herself to an area hospital, according to the release. Columbia Police Department officers were able to locate the victim and her vehicle and Richland County EMS was dispatched to take her to the hospital for medical treatment, the sheirff’s department said.

Further information on her condition was not available.

No other injuries were reported.

The victim told deputies that she was involved in an altercation in McCary’s parking lot and was shot when she tried to drive away, according to the release. Information about the cause of the altercation was not available.

The victim said an unknown female and another woman she didn’t know approached her and attempted to fight her, the sheriff’s department said in an incident report. She then got into her vehicle, then heard — and soon felt — the gunshots, according to the incident report.

It was not clear if either the victim or anyone else involved in the shooting had been in the bar prior to the gunfire.

There was no word about a shooter, or shooters, and no arrests have been reported by the sheriff’s department, which is continuing to investigate the gunfire.

In 2019, two people were killed in a shooting at McCary’s and two others were injured. Three of the shooting victims were customers, and one was an employee.
