A new store for University of South Carolina gear is planned for a growing multi-use district near downtown Columbia.

Alumni House, which has collegiate apparel and gear stores in a number of cities, is planning a shop on Pickens Street in the BullStreet District, according to large banners posted in the storefront. The shop would be right next to Methodical Coffee, on the bottom floor of the WestLawn Building.
The large banners hanging in the window at 2147 Pickens St. note that Alumni Hall is “coming soon” and that it would be “The Ultimate USC Shopping Experience.”
No opening date for Alumni Hall at BullStreet has been publicly announced. There was construction work going on inside the space when a reporter briefly stopped by on Monday.
There are more than three dozen Alumni Hall locations across the US in states such as Georgia, Florida, Indiana, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio and elsewhere. Each of those stores carry apparel and gear of the major college teams that are nearby.
The BullStreet District continues to add new amenities. Hughes Development and the city of Columbia are in the midst of a two-decade effort to overhaul the sprawling, 181-acre former State Mental Hospital site, and there have been a number of announcements and activities that have proliferated at the district.

For example, Gather COLA food hall opened in the district late last year, with a community lawn space next door that will be highlighted by a Coastal Crust pizza location opening soon in a portion of the former Williams Building.
The aforementioned Methodical Coffee, which has made a name for itself in the Greenville area, opened its first Columbia location in 2025 in the WestLawn office building, and Tupelo Honey restaurant debuted a location in the district last year. Restaurants such as Publico and Three Notch’d brewery also highlight the district.
Meanwhile, hundreds of apartments are now located on the BullStreet grounds, including in the historic former Babcock Building. And in perhaps the most aggressive project at the district, the University of South Carolina is currently building a new medical school as part of a planned $300 million health sciences campus on the eastern side of the district. That medical school is slated to open in 2027.
The monthly Bullseye Vintage market happens at BullStreet near the Columbia Fireflies’ Segra Park baseball stadium, and the seven-story Grand Willow Hotel is under construction at 1571 Freed St. on the BullStreet property. And a new 50,000-square-foot Publix supermarket is planned for the district, next door to the REI outdoor store.
Meanwhile, a Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams is coming soon in the BullStreet as is trendy women’s clothier DressUp.
