An Indianapolis woman was sentenced Tuesday to 27 months in federal prison for threatening to kill U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace.

Shayla Addison, 28, pleaded guilty to two counts of influencing a federal office by threat, according to a news release from an Indiana U.S. district attorney’s office.
The news release does not name Mace as the victim, but the congresswoman has identified herself publicly, including in a news release Tuesday.
“No one should have to fear for their life for serving the American people,” Mace said in the news release.
Addison sent threatening and explicit messages to Mace’s campaign phone and email and posted similar messages on her Instagram, according to news releases from the congresswoman’s office and the Department of Justice.
Addison’s federal prison sentence will be followed by three years of supervised release. She also previously made threatening calls to a Firehouse Subs where her ex-boyfriend worked in 2019, and police were dispatched to her mother’s residence after Addison said she would burn down the home and poured gasoline on the steps, according to a news release.

Another person was sentenced to five years, suspended to 30 months of house arrest, and five years of probation in a Greenville, South Carolina, court for threatening Mace, according to a press release from her office. Samuel Theodore Cain was arrested in May 2025 by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division and charged with threatening life, person or family of public official, according to court filings.
Cain posted “I’M GOING TO ASSASSINATE REPRESENTATIVE NANCY MACE WITH A GUN AND I’M BEING 100% DEAD ASS” on X, according to Mace’s office.
Mace, who represents the 1st Congressional District, thanked law enforcement and prosecutors involved in the two cases in a social media post Tuesday.
“Not one, but two people in two different cases in two different states were sentenced today for death threats against me,” she said in a post on X.
Mace is not running for reelection to the U.S. House. She recently lost her bid for governor, finishing fifth in the Republican primary, and ruled out running in the special U.S. Senate election.
