The social media manager at the Greenville Humane Society took a few days off, but the Facebook page didn’t go dark. The dogs and cats took it over and created a sensation.

They began, “ATTENTION HUMANS, Our social media writer has abandoned us for vacation. We considered being professional about it … but then we remembered we’re a shelter full of dogs and cats with unrestricted internet access.”
So for a few days, they decided to advertise themselves.
“Expect shameless self-promotion, questionable spelling (we don’t have thumbs), demands for snacks, and probably a few accusations that the cheese and hot dog supply is running inhumanely low,” the post said.
It began with Darius, who said, “no madder wat they tell u that big water snake was guna get us ALL! I waz the hero of the day!”
He was referring to a hose that did look sort of threatening.
One person commented, “way to save all the other pups, Darius!”
Another dog who chose to remain anonymous said, “Am I a garden fairy? A princess? A professional cutie patootie? woke up this adorabull.”
Someone responded, “no way that’s a dog, that is 100% a woodland Spryte!”
Shugar or Sugar, she wasn’t too sure how to spell her name in the excitement of the publicity and all.
“I luv splashin’ in pudduls, makin’ hoomans laff, and I’m pretty shure my tongue is at least 47% of my body weight,” she said.

Houdini the black cat said, “yes … I escaped bedtime, escaped responsibility, and almost escaped this photo shoot. Lucky for you, I never escape cuddlez.”
Sabrina, who was duded up for her photo shoot said, “Nobody told me we were stopping at the mall portrait studio first. I struck my best pose, gave my smolder, and now I’m waiting for someone to say, “We’ll take the whole package. P.S. My personality is even more fabulous than my headshot.“
“These are some stunning glamor shots,” one person responded.
Then people started adding photos of their own Humane Society alums — Ozzy, the “best crazy dog ever,” Hattie and Lily, whose human added a picture taken the day she was adopted in 2022 and then one taken recently.
Suffice it to say, the takeover had some legs — as in 876 responses, 103 comments and 78 shares.
People called it fantastic, great, awesome and absolutely pawriffic.
Tracey Griffith said, “Since the dogs and cats are temporarily taking over social media, you should watch out for snack bandits coming to rob the treat supply and holding your staff hostage for more!“
