Funeral plans have been set for a sheriff’s deputy who died during a training exercise on Lake Murray last week.

Master Deputy Jillian Olson will be honored with a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 1430 North Lake Drive.
Olson will lie in state at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the funeral. After the service she will be laid to rest in the St. Michael Lutheran Church cemetery, 400 River Road.
Olson, 29, was a 2019 graduate of Western Illinois University. She joined the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department in 2021 and for the last two years she had served as a member of the department’s dive team. She was named the 2025 Outstanding Judicial Services Deputy by the Lexington County Sheriff’s Foundation.
The young deputy had recently completed her 100th dive and was known to spend her free time on the lake as well — diving, paddleboarding or just floating in the sunshine. She was known as a “loving dog mom” to Levi, Pudge and Ziggy, according to Olson’s obituary.

Olson died during a training exercise on Lake Murray on Thursday.
The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources is leading the investigation into Olson’s death, with assistance from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division. The Lexington County Coroner’s Office is currently investigating Olson’s cause and manner of death, which has not yet been released.
Olson is survived by her parents, three siblings, a niece and nephew and all four of her grandparents.
