A person is dead following a weekend car crash in Richland County near Columbia.
South Carolina Highway Patrol Master Trooper William Bennett said in a release that the wreck happened at about 1:09 a.m. Aug. 2 on Trotter Road near the intersection of Crestmore Drive. That’s near Leesburg Road, east of Columbia.

The Highway Patrol said a 2026 Subaru SUV was traveling east on Trotter Road when it went off the road to the left and hit a tree, a culvert and a power pole, then overturned. The driver was the only occupant of the SUV, and died at the scene, Highway Patrol said.

The deceased had not been publicly identified as of Monday afternoon. The wreck remains under investigation, Bennett said.
