The beginning weeks of the school year in many districts collides with a statewide special election for the Republican U.S. Senate nomination. It’s caused some counties to find new polling locations for the Aug. 11 primary.

State Election Commission director Conway Belangia said counties would have to figure out new or consolidated polling locations if schools weren’t an option for the special election.
“If a school can accommodate, protect the kids and then accommodate a polling place, that’s fine,” Belangia told reporters July 15. “A lot of them can’t, and in those cases, we’ve asked the counties to consider trying to figure out a consolidation or a move so that we don’t put our children at jeopardy.”
Voters can find their updated polling place on the state Election Commission’s website.

The special election to replace Lindsey Graham on the November ballot was triggered by the sudden death of the longtime senator on July 11. Only those who did not vote in the June Democratic Party primary can participate.
