Bang Back Bar & Grill, located at 2719 Rosewood Drive, announced on social media that it is having a soft opening week which began on Aug. 18. Special hours for the rest of this week, per the social media post, are 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday. The kitchen will close at 10 p.m. nightly during the soft opening. The restaurant will be closed on Sunday.
This marks the second location for the Bang Back brand in Columbia. Owner Fred Richardson also has the Bang Back Pinball Lounge on Saluda Avenue in Five Points, which has been open for about six years.
Bang Back Bar & Grill inhabits a space at 2719 Rosewood Drive that is familiar to Columbia residents and diners. That building formerly was home to the venerable Rockaway Athletic Club bar and restaurant for more than 40 years before it closed in 2024. It was announced earlier this year that Richardson would be bringing Bang Back Bar & Grill to the address, offering a full food and drink menu to go along with unique and custom-made pinball games and more.

The new Rosewood bar and grill held a dedication back in June, which included the introduction of a Wall of Fame. The inaugural honoree on that wall was the late Marc Mandeltort.
Mandeltort, who died in 2021, was the founder of Marco Specialties, the Lexington County business that is thought to be the world’s foremost supplier and manufacturer of pinball machine parts and accessories. A plaque in Mandeltort’s honor, unveiled at the Rosewood restaurant in June, noted he “believed pinball was a beautiful world under glass that brought people together and created joy across generations.”
