A fast-growing coffee chain is planning a new location on one of the busiest roads in the Midlands.

Dutch Bros Coffee, which has locations across the U.S. and has been adding new shops in the Midlands, is planning a location at 5211 Sunset Blvd. in Lexington. That’s next to the Lidl supermarket, near the local road Tom Corley Place.
The Dutch Bros project at 5211 Sunset near Tom Corley Place is listed on the Town of Lexington’s most recent planning and zoning actions report, and it is referenced in the August agenda paperwork of the Lexington County Planning Commission. The report noted that stormwater and land disturbance fees had been paid for the project. The town of Lexington’s board of appearance approved a measure a year ago allowing for the Dutch Bros at 5211 Sunset.
An opening date for the coffee shop has not been publicly announced. Land was being prepped for the project when a reporter went by on Tuesday, though vertical construction had not yet begun.
Dutch Bros has been rapidly growing its profile in the Midlands. Earlier this year, the company took over several Clutch Coffee Co. locations in the Midlands and converted them into Dutch Bros. That included shops at 9349 Two Notch Road and 4716 Devine St. in Columbia, 308 Columbia Ave. near downtown Lexington, and at 1511 Lake Murray Blvd. in Irmo.

The company also built a location at 10605 Broad River Road in Irmo, near Dutch Fork Road, and at 7001 Garners Ferry Road in Columbia near Dorn Veterans Affairs hospital.
Dutch Bros Coffee has more than 1,000 locations across the U.S., many in the western part of the country, per data website ScrapeHero. The company was founded in 1992 in Oregon and is now headquartered in Arizona.
The menu at Dutch Bros includes coffee, energy drinks, teas, smoothies, hot cocoa, chai lattes, blended frozen drinks and snacks such as muffin tops and granola bars.
The planned location at 5211 Sunset Blvd. is in a high-traffic area of Lexington lined with restaurants, stores and other businesses. More than 45,000 cars per day travel down that stretch of Sunset, per state Department of Transportation stats, making it one of the busiest non-interstate roads in the Midlands.
