Dolly Parton has had many connections to the Grand Strand.
The late legendary country music star and actress, who died Tuesday, Aug. 25, at age 80, has performed in Myrtle Beach and owns one of the most popular tourist attractions in the area.

But there has been a long-time rumor that the rhinestone queen known for her witty remarks, over-the-top makeup and wigs and generous philanthropic endeavors owned a home in the Garden City area.
Did she? Unfortunately, it is just a rumor.

Because of the gated home’s massive scale and prominent location at the point, a neighborhood tale, which has continued over the years, began to circulate that the home was owned by Parton.
The iconic house is known as the “Alpha Omega at The Point” located at the southern point of Garden City.
The home, built in 1992, belonged to the Ammons family, who were the owners of the Family Kingdom Amusement Park in Myrtle Beach. The Ammons family bought the amusement park in 1992 and operated it for many years until it was later sold.

The rumor of Parton’s home ownership is said to have been fueled by the opening of her first Myrtle Beach tourist attraction, the Dixie Stampede, in 1992. The dinner show, later renamed The Stampede, closed in 2010 to make way for the new Pirates Voyage, which still operates today.
Today, the luxury estate operates as vacation rental property.

Parton has been to the Myrtle Beach area many times over the decades.
She performed at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center in July 1975 with Conway Twitty, and opened her first tourist attraction, the Dixie Stampede in 1992, where she was welcomed to a sold-out show.
In 2011 Parton helped launch the Pirates Voyage dinner show and made an appearance during the show’s premiere.
