Two students at a Midlands middle school are facing charges after they separately brought weapons to school this week, according to the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.

Both incidents happened within days of each other at Carolina Springs Middle School on Platt Springs Road south of Lexington.
On Tuesday, school administrators were notified that a female student was carrying a knife, the sheriff’s department said in a news release.
“After searching her bag, a kitchen knife was found and immediately secured by the school resource officer,” Sheriff Jay Koon said in the release.

Two days later, a male student was allegedly found to be carrying a loaded handgun, which was found during a search due to an “unrelated discipline issue.”
“No students were harmed in either case,” Koon said.
The female student is being charged with carrying a weapon on school property. The male student is facing the same charge along with possession of a firearm by certain persons unlawful.
Both students were released into the custody of their parents. Their names were not released because both are under the age of 18.
