A growing convenience store chain known for fried chicken and other offerings is bringing a new location to Lexington County.

Spinx, which has locations across South Carolina, is building a new store at 3620 Augusta Road in West Columbia, next door to the popular U.S. 1 Metro Flea Market. A fuel canopy bearing the Spinx name and logo has been erected on the site and construction is ongoing there. The Augusta Road Spinx project has been listed in Lexington County Planning Commission documents in recent months, and county property records show the land at 3620 Augusta road is owned by The Spinx Company.
An opening date for the coming Augusta Road store has not been publicly announced.
Spinx was founded by Stewart Spinks in Greenville in 1972, per the company’s website, with the first store at Laurens Road and East Washington Street. The company now has more than 80 stores across the state with more than 1,400 employees, per the Spinx website.

Through the years Spinx grew its operations, particularly as it relates to food options. The company has been known for its fried chicken, which it deems “legendary,” with bone-in, tenders and nuggets available. Spinx also carries a number of breakfast items, including chicken biscuits, sausage biscuits, hash browns and more.
The company has recently been expanding its profile in the Midlands. Spinx opened a new store in late July at 296 Charter Oak Road in Lexington, near the Hendrix Crossing shopping development that is anchored by a Publix. The company also is in the midst of construction on a new location at 1544 S. Lake Drive in Lexington County’s growing Red Bank area.
The coming Augusta Road location will be along a bustling thoroughfare next to the U.S. 1 Metro Flea Market. About 31,000 cars per day travel down that section of Augusta Road, per state Department of Transportation data.
