A Duncan Town Council member is under criminal investigation after being accused of child abuse.

Duncan Police Chief Benjamin Cox said he asked the State Law Enforcement Division to handle the investigation against Greg Rensberger, who has served on the council since 2021.
Cox said he met with someone who made the allegations and then decided an investigation was warranted.
“Because a current council member was involved in the investigation, I immediately contacted the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) and informed them of what I was dealing with and the information I had at this point,” Cox said in a news release. “They agreed to further investigate this incident to remove any conflict of interest for the Duncan Police Department and the Town of Duncan.”

Rensberger could not be reached for comment.
On his campaign website, he says he is an “active father and grandfather, District 5 athletic coach, youth mentor, hometown business supporter, longtime volunteer with charitable organizations and a faithful church member.”
He said he has lived in Duncan or 23 years.
He listed his experience as eight years on the council, 30 years in management of operations, and chairman of his church board for 13 years.
