Fifth Third Bank, a Cincinnati, Ohio-headquartered company with locations across a number of states, is bringing a branch to the Platt Springs Crossing development along Platt Springs Road in the increasingly busy Red Bank area of Lexington. The coming Fifth Third location is listed in the commercial activity section of the May agenda the Lexington County Planning Commission.
The bank branch will be located next door to a Whataburger restaurant at Platt Springs Crossing. Construction fencing and some heavy equipment were on the site when a reporter went by Tuesday, and there was a Fifth Third sign on the property that read “New bank taking shape.” An anticipated opening date for the branch has not been publicly announced.
There are nearly 1,100 Fifth Third locations across 12 states, according to the company’s website. Some of those states include South Carolina, Ohio, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and Tennessee, among others.
The company is just gaining its first foothold in the Midlands. Aside from the under-development Fifth Third at Platt Springs Crossing, there also is a branch under construction at 146 Harbison Boulevard in the busy Harbison shopping district, as well as one in development on Devine Street in Columbia.
