Kenneth Nelson is the second person charged with murdering 20-year-old Sumter resident Maurice Tyrell Isaac, the sheriff’s office said Wednesday in a news release. Nelson was taken into custody Oct. 8 by the sheriff’s deputies and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division agents, according to the release.
On Aug. 8, Equante Syquell Bell was charged with murder for his role in Isaac’s death, the sheriff’s office said.
Isaac’s body was found Aug. 1 in a wooded area near Cedar Avenue and Industrial Road after the sheriff’s office said that it received a report of “human remains.”
Sumter County Sheriff Anthony Dennis previously said Isaac had been beaten and also shot once in the head. Isaac was killed in a different location before his body was taken to where it was burned and later discovered, according to the sheriff’s office.

There was no information available about where Isaac was killed.
Information about a motive for the killing, and the number of people involved, was not available. Dennis confirmed the incident was gang-related but did not identify the gang involved, and added Isaac’s death is believed to be an isolated incident.
Despite the two arrests, the sheriff’s office said it’s continuing to investigate Isaac’s death and more arrests are possible.
