A year after a Georgia teenager was killed in SC a man is arrested, sheriff says

The body of a teenager from Georgia was found outside a South Carolina home in 2025, and nearly a year later a man was charged with murder, according to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

On Wednesday, the sheriff’s office said that Rahkeem Deaundre Epps was arrested in the death of 19-year-old Jamyah Jones.

Jones was killed Sept. 6, 2025, in front of a home at 1410 Camp Branch Road, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

The teen from Hampton, Georgia, was unresponsive when found outside the home, according to the sheriff’s office.

Jones was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker.

Information about how Epps was identified by law enforcement was not available, but Sumter County Sheriff Anthony Dennis said in the release that the arrest came after an extensive investigation.

The 24-year-old Epps was out on bond from a 2025 arrest on a drug charge when the shooting happened, Sumter County court records show. Information about Epps’ bond status following the murder charge was not available.

Despite the arrest, Jones’ death remains under investigation and more arrests are expected, according to the release.

There was no word about a motive for the shooting, or why the teen from Georgia was more than 270 miles from her hometown. But Dennis the shooting was the result of “gang violence.”
