Bicyclist dies after being struck by pickup truck in the Midlands, troopers say

A crash in the Midlands has left one person dead, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred on Tuesday around 6:30 a.m. on Red Oak Road at Kimberwick Trail in Barnwell County, according to Lance Cpl. Brittany Glover.

A 2011 Chevrolet Silverado was heading south on Red Oak Road while a bicyclist was traveling on the shoulder of the road before entering the roadway and colliding with the pickup truck, Glover said.

The bicyclist was transported to an area hospital before succumbing to their injuries, according to Glover. The driver of the Silverado was not injured.

The identity of the deceased has not yet been released by the Barnwell County Coroner’s Office.
