John L. Meyers III — a 51-year-old from Hephzibah, Georgia — is the man whose body was found in North Augusta, Coroner Darryl Ables said Monday in a news release.
The discovery was made around noon Sunday, and at about 12:15 p.m. the coroner’s office was called to the field in the 100 block of Philpot Lane, according to the release. That’s by the 13th Street bridge, just blocks from the Savannah River and state line separating South Carolina and Georgia.
Meyers was “found in various stages of decomposition,” and an autopsy will be conducted in Newberry to determine his cause and manner of death, the coroner’s office said. Ables did not say if foul play was suspected.
