On Oct. 8, Angelo Xzavier Allen was convicted by a Lexington County jury for trafficking methamphetamine (400 grams or more), the solicitor’s office said in a Wednesday night news release.

The 41-year-old from Augusta, Georgia was sentenced to 25 years in a South Carolina prison by Circuit Court Judge Jane Merrill, according to the release.

Allen will not be eligible for parole and must serve a mandatory minimum sentence of 25 years in prison because South Carolina law classifies trafficking drugs as a violent, serious offense, the solicitor’s office said.

On March 12, 2025, Allen was driving from Augusta to Lexington when he was pulled over on I-20 in Lexington County, according to the release. Allen gave law enforcement officers permission to search his vehicle, and they found 491 grams of meth hidden under the passenger seat, the solicitor’s office said.

Allen was the only occupant of the vehicle, which was registered to him, according to the release. During the trial, the jury heard testimony that Allen was traveling from Georgia to Lexington County for a drug deal, the solicitor’s office said.

No other arrests connected to the drug deal were reported.

Allen has a prior criminal history in Georgia, which includes convictions for drug, gun and aggravated assault crimes, according to the release. He was on probation for the aggravated assault, the solicitor’s office said.

Allen was taken to a South Carolina Department of Corrections prison to begin serving his sentence, according to the release.

The case was investigated by the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.

Assistant Solicitors Player Long and Caroline Strom prosecuted this case. Attorney’s Debra Moore and Stephen Story were listed as Allen’s lawyers, Lexington County court records show.

Allen is appealing the conviction, according to court records. Allen is currently being held at Kirkland Reception and Evaluation Center on Broad River Road in Columbia, prison records show.

“This conviction underscores our office’s commitment to working alongside law enforcement in protecting our community from the serious harms associated with the distribution of dangerous controlled substances,” Long said.
