President Donald Trump will speak at the Rock Hill Sports & Events Center Thursday in York County in support of South Carolina Republican candidates before next week’s midterm election, city of Rock Hill spokesperson Katie Quinn said.

The Herald, Charlotte Observer and The State reported the president’s visit on Monday.
Trump’s visit to Rock Hill is his third in the past decade but his first as sitting president. He had campaign rallies at the Winthrop Coliseum before the 2016 Republican primary and the 2024 Republican primary when he was a candidate. Those previous events drew thousands of people and put Rock Hill in the center of the nation’s political news.
Rock Hill, just 25 miles from Charlotte, the largest city in the Carolinas, also gives Trump and Republicans visibility to North Carolina voters and races. Trump has campaigned in recent weeks in South Carolina near Greenville and in nearby North Carolina in Gastonia.
South Carolina Senate race
His visit is expected to try and boost incumbent South Carolina Sen. Darline Graham, who faces Democrat Annie Andrews. Polls have showed that race has tightened leading up to the Nov. 3 election, The State reported Tuesday.
Andrews is scheduled to speak Wednesday in downtown Rock Hill at the Old Town Amphitheater adjacent to city hall at a rally for Democrats, according to the York County Democratic Party website. That event is from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Quinn, the city spokesperson, confirmed that Andrews is expected to attend the event Wednesday evening.
York County, which has leaned Republican for many years, has more than 194,000 registered voters in a population over 300,000.
Graham won the special South Carolina primary earlier this year against incumbent Rep. Ralph Norman, but York County voted overwhelmingly for Norman. The Rock Hill developer and the congressman representing York County said he would vote for Graham but said he wouldn’t campaign with her in a radio interview last week.

It remains unclear which candidates, including Graham, will appear during the rally Thursday where Trump is scheduled to appear.

Safety, traffic on the day Trump visits
York County Sheriff Tony Breeden told The Herald he was contacted Monday by federal officials about the Trump visit and his office will be working with the U.S. Secret Service and other federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies on security and safety for dignitaries and the public.
“We will contribute whatever is needed,” Breeden said.
Details on traffic changes, parking, security requirements and other information have not yet been released by Rock Hill police and the sheriff’s office.
