One person is dead following a head-on collision in Pickens County, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The accident occurred on S.C. Highway 183 near Alex Drive on Friday around 8:50 a.m., according to Master Trooper M.R. Ridgeway. The collision involved two vehicles, a 2009 Toyota Avalon and 2011 Dodge Van.
The driver, and sole occupant, of the Toyota was traveling south on S.C. 183 while the Dodge was headed north.

The operator of the Toyota crossed the center line and struck the Dodge head-on, and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Mitchell.
The driver of the Dodge, who was also traveling alone, was injured and transported to an area hospital, Mitchell said.

The crash remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
