A 21-year-old man died while trying to rescue his sister from Lake Norman north of Charlotte, according to N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission Law Enforcement.

Searchers recovered the body of Dorian Jackson from the 32,475-acre lake around 1 p.m. Sunday, officials said.
He vanished just before 7 p.m. Saturday, after “a boating incident” near Hearthstone Court in the Terrell area of Catawba County, Lt. Anna E. Barbosa said in a news release.
“The incident occurred roughly 30 yards from the dock of a nearby residence and involved two individuals: Dorian Jackson … and his sister, Faith Jackson, both of Greensboro,” Barbosa said.
“According to initial reports, Faith Jackson’s kayak had capsized, and she was struggling in the water. She was wearing a life jacket at the time. Her brother, Dorian Jackson, who was not wearing a life jacket, attempted to assist her by helping her onto his kayak.”

Neighbors who witnessed the struggle jumped into the lake to help and were able to bring Faith Jackson to shore, officials said.
They were unable to locate Dorian Jackson, “who had gone under the water and did not resurface,” Barbosa said.
Sherrills Ford Fire, Denver Fire, and the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the search for his body.

“As always, we remind boaters to wear a life jacket,” state officials said.
The Terrell community is about a 35-mile drive northwest from uptown Charlotte.
