The driver of a tractor-trailer was killed Friday when a train struck the truck at a railroad crossing in Dorchester County, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The collision happened around 6:39 p.m. on U.S. 78 near Bird Farm Road, according to Master Trooper Mitchell Ridgeway.
The 2015 Peterbilt tractor-trailer had stopped at the crossing while traveling northbound on U.S. 78 when it was hit by a Norfolk Southern train traveling west, Ridgeway said.

The truck driver died at the scene and has not yet been identified by the Dorchester County Coroner’s Office.
