A man in the Midlands was arrested in connection to a string of home invasions, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

Shaheim Jackson, 27, was charged with two counts of first-degree burglary, two counts of attempted murder, two counts of possession of a weapon during a violent crime, two counts of possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a violent offense, one count of ill-treatment of an animal, one count of kidnapping and one count of attempted kidnapping, according to a news release.
The charges stem from two home invasions in Richland County. The first occurred on Aug. 13 around 1 a.m. in the 400 block of Warner Drive, the release said. The victims told deputies that multiple people, while armed, forced entry into their home and killed their dog in the process.
The suspects fled the scene before law enforcement arrived, according to the release.
Again, on Aug. 25 around 11:45 p.m., deputies discovered that forced entry was made into a residence in the 300 block of Melstone Drive following multiple calls of shots fired, the release said. The suspects exchanged gunfire with the homeowner before leaving the scene ahead of law enforcement arriving.

Richland County deputies assisted the U.S. Marshall’s Service and Charleston Police Department — Jackson reportedly committed other crimes in Charleston’s jurisdiction — with search and arrests warrants at a residence located in the 200 block of Horeshoe Circle, the release said. A vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle from surveillance footage in both home invasions was spotted at the home.
Deputies found a stolen AR-15 pistol while conducting the search warrant, the release said.
Jackson was booked into the Al Cannon Detention Center for warrants issued in Charleston County. Upon his release in Charleston, Jackson will be booked into the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, according to the release.
