A man died after being shot overnight in Columbia, according to the Columbia Police Department.

Richland County Sheriff’s Department deputies heard gunfire coming from a nearby parking lot at the Colony Apartments and responded to the 6300 block of Bailey Street, where they found a vehicle that had crashed into a building, according to a news release.
The male driver had an apparent gunshot wound. Deputies provided emergency medical aid, including CPR, before EMS took him to Prisma Health Richland Hospital. He was later pronounced dead, the release said.
Investigators with the Columbia Police Department are working to determine what led to the shooting and identify everyone involved, according to the release.

The Richland County Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s identity and additional details after his family has been notified, according to the release.
