In South Carolina, the post-flight journey to the sand ranges from 12 minutes to nearly an hour, according to a new global study by Mozio, a ground transportation booking platform.
Myrtle Beach ranks among the world’s 15 most accessible beach destinations, while Folly Beach and Hilton Head also place among the top 100. All three destinations are reachable within an hour of their primary gateway airports.
The study analyzed 100 well-known beach destinations across the U.S., Caribbean, Latin America, Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific. The study measured Google driving time and distance from each destination’s primary commercial gateway to a representative beach point.

Myrtle Beach ranked No. 13 in the world and is the third-highest ranked U.S. destination, behind only Key West and San Diego. The beach is 4.1 miles from Myrtle Beach International Airport and has an estimated travel time of 12 minutes to get to the beach, the study said.
Folly Beach ranked No. 63 in the world with an estimated travel time of 36 minutes through Charleston International Airport, and Hilton Head came in at No. 78 with an estimated travel time of 54 minutes from the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport.
The world’s top three accessible, drivable beach destinations are Cozumel, Mexico; Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt; and Key West, according to the study. The next U.S. destination, San Diego, came in at No. 10.
