In South Carolina, there are dozens of Indian restaurants throughout the state, each with their own unique styles and courses. But which one is the best?
Tasting Table, a national food and drink publication, found the best Indian restaurant in every state, using online customer reviews, local press and awards received by each restaurant. The group often compiles similar reports, such as crowning the best Brazilian Steakhouse in each state.
Here’s the restaurant in South Carolina that was named the best Indian restaurant by Tasting Table.

The dining site reported Rivayat Creative Indian is the Palmetto State’s best Indian eatery, beating out the dozens of other highly desired Indian restaurants throughout South Carolina.

Located in Charleston, Rivayat is not just the best Indian restaurant in South Carolina, but also one of the best new restaurants in the city, according to Tasting Table. If you’ve ever been to Charleston, you know that high praise should not be taken lightly in that city’s impressive dining scene.
Along with the restaurant’s delicious dishes, such as their butter chicken, lamb saag, chana masala and peneer makhani, they are well-known for their creative cocktails and martinis. Tasting Table said they have one of the best espresso martinis in Charleston — with their own spicy twist on it, of course.
The cherry on top is that Rivayat is recommended by the Michelin Guide, the same French-based publication that awards Michelin stars to the best restaurants in the world. Getting recommended by the Michelin Guide isn’t as prestigious as getting a Michelin star, but it still shows that Rivayat is an outstanding restaurant with an incredible staff and a quality menu.
There are only 27 restaurants in South Carolina that are featured by the Michelin Guide. Only four restaurants have a Michelin star.
