A manufacturer of metal buildings will locate a $15.5 million facility in Liberty, its first in South Carolina.

Located in Doerun, Georgia, Tyson Steel Building Products will hire 20 people to make components for metal buildings, which are used for residential, commercial and agricultural purposes.
It is a family-owned company founded in 1976 by James L. Tyson. Brad and Jody Tyson took over management of the company in May 2005.
The 96,000 square-foot manufacturing facility will be located at 180 Ann Drive in Liberty, which is in Pickens County.
It is expected to open in spring 2027.
“The opening of our Liberty facility represents far more than an expansion of our manufacturing footprint — it reflects Tyson Steel Building Products’ long-term commitment to serving customers with greater speed, capacity and reliability throughout the Southeast,” Brad and Jody Tyson said in a news release.

They said they chose the location because it is close to the Pickens County Career and Technology Center and the county has a strong business climate.
They took over management of the company in May 2005.
“Pickens County is proud to welcome Tyson Steel and its 50 years of family-owned manufacturing experience to Liberty,” Pickens County Council Chairman Alex Saitta said.
