A Midlands woman is facing an arson charge after allegedly setting fire to the home where she lived.

Sumter County Sheriff’s Office said in a release that it arrested Patricia Anne Tilton, of Sumter, and charged her with arson in connection to the Sept. 19 incident.
Authorities said deputies responded Saturday to a home on Race Track Road after getting a report of a fire. When deputies arrived, they found that “fire had fully engulfed the home,” the release said.

The sheriff’s office alleged in the release that the suspect asked the victims in the case to call 911, and that the victims then heard windows breaking and saw smoke coming from a room in the house. The sheriff’s office alleges that the suspect was found to be in the possession of a torch lighter during questioning.
The suspect was taken to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center, the release said.
