Residents on Mallard Lakes Drive are being affected by the break, and the town is scrambling to repair the damage, Lexington said in an announcement Monday morning.

The town said approximately 81 customers were without water after service was shut down for repairs on the broken main.

As of 6 p.m., town officials expected to take “another few hours,” and urged patience and caution from residents.

“Please be cautions when driving through the work zone for everyone’s safety,” the town said in an announcement on its website. “We’re doing all we can to get water restored as soon as possible.”

The following roadways will be without water for the duration of the repairs, followed by a period under a boil water advisory.

• Summer Duck Trail

• Landing Drive

• W. Sparrowood Run

• E. Sparrowood Run

• Mallard Lakes Drive (only between Sunset Blvd and Sparrowood Run)

“Conditions require the Town to utilize a subcontractor to complete the repairs,” the town’s announcement said. “The repair work will begin once all utilities have been marked. The work will require that the water main be shut down, resulting in an outage for many customers in the area. The Town will provide updates as the situation progresses.”

Mallard Lakes and its connected cul-de-sacs run south of Sunset Boulevard, near Old Cherokee Road and Saxe Gotha Presbyterian Church. It was unclear Monday morning how many homes would be affected or how long they may be without water.
