At about 3 a.m., deputies responded to a call about a possible home invasion in the 200 block of Sandpine Circle, the sheriff’s department said Monday in a news release. That’s in Columbia, near Bombing Range Road and Lake Carolina.
Shortly after arriving to that home, deputies received a call about a person who’d been shot on Whitton Lane, according to the release. That’s a little more than a mile from Sandpine Circle.
Deputies responded to that nearby address and found a person who’d been shot in the upper body, the sheriff’s department said. Deputies provided medical aid until EMS arrived and took the victim to an area hospital, according to the release.
Further information on the victim’s condition was not available.
No other injuries were reported.
The sheriff’s department confirmed that the home invasion and shooting were related, but did not specify how they were connected. There was no word about the victim’s role in the first incident, and why that person was found on Whitton Lane.
