Angel Renee Wallace, 34, was convicted of homicide by child abuse after being accused of subjecting a 2-year-old to severe malnutrition, according to a news release. She was sentenced to 35 years in prison by Circuit Court Judge William Seals.

At 2-years-old, two months before his third birthday, the child weighed just 18 pounds at the time of his death, according to the release.

Investigators from the Florence County Sheriff’s Office and the State Law Enforcement Division found that Wallace’s treatment toward the child, in addition to his malnutrition, “demonstrated an extreme indifference to human life,” the release said.

The case was prosecuted by Senior Assistant Deputy Attorney General Heather Weiss and Assistant Deputy Attorney General Megan Raymer.
