These are the 10 best SC hospitals for 2026, US News & World Report says

The best hospitals in South Carolina have been unveiled for 2026 and 2027, thanks to U.S. News & World Report.

Each year, the media company releases a report revealing the best regional hospitals in every state, the ones that consistently deliver exceptional care across a wide range of medical needs.

These hospitals must meet rigorous quality standards, such as earning a “High Performing” rating in at least eight procedures and medical conditions, and hold at least five more “High Performing” ratings than evaluated ratings. Nationwide, 505 hospitals were recognized as Best Regional Hospitals.

In terms of healthcare excellence, these top-rated hospitals are the cream of the crop. Here are the SC hospitals that earned a spot on this report and where they ranked in the Palmetto State:

On this list, Beaufort Memorial Hospital, HCA Healthcare Trident Hospital and Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital tied for 7th place. A couple of hospitals rank nationally for their services.

1. MUSC Health-University Medical Center – Charleston: Nationally ranks 10th in the nation for Obstetrics and Gynecology and also ranks nationally for six pediatric specialties. The hospital also is high performing in 15 adult procedures and conditions.
2. Lexington Medical Center – West Columbia: Rated high performing in 13 adult procedures and conditions
3. Roper Hospital – Charleston: Nationally ranks 32nd in the nation for Rehabilitation, and is rated high performing in 13 adult procedures and conditions
4. Prisma Health Richland Hospital – Columbia: rated high performing in 11 adult procedures and conditions
5. Bon Secours St. Francis Health System-Greenville – Greenville: rated high performing in 10 adult procedures and conditions
6. Grand Strand Regional Medical Center – Myrtle Beach: rated high performing in 9 adult procedures and conditions
7. Beaufort Memorial Hospital – Beaufort: rated high performing in 8 adult procedures and conditions
8. HCA Healthcare Trident Hospital -Charlestonrated high performing in 8 adult procedures and conditions
9. Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital – Greenville: rated high performing in 9 adult procedures and conditions
10. McLeod Regional Medical Center – Florence: rated high performing in 8 adult procedures and conditions

Methodology

U.S. News and World Report uses data from Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, professional organizations, medical specialists and other sources to construct the rankings.

Hospitals were ranked in each state based on the number of points they earned under U.S. News and World Report’s rating system. Hospitals earned two points for each of the 10 data-driven Best Hospitals specialties (excluding Rehabilitation) in which they were nationally ranked.

Additionally, hospitals earned one point for each High Performing rating received in the 23 procedures and conditions (AVR and TAVR are combined in this calculation) and maternity care. The maximum points a hospital can get is 43.
