A new place to get your ride shined is planned in the northeast Columbia area.
Tommy’s Express Car Wash is set to bring a new location to the 500 block of Spears Creek Church Road, near the intersection of Spears Creek Church Road and Fiddleleaf Drive, according to the city of Columbia Planning Commission’s upcoming agenda. The planning board meets at 4 p.m. Aug. 13 at Columbia City Hall.

According to , Tommy’s Express plans to build a 4,600-square-foot car wash on about an acre of land. The car wash — which would be the type where drivers remain in their cars as they pass through a wash tunnel on a conveyor belt — would also have 13 vacuum bays and eight parking spaces, per commission records.
The Tommy’s Express project was first approved by the planning commission in 2024. However, that initial site plan expired, commission documents note. The agenda notes Tommy’s Express does plan to move the project forward with this latest request.

Tommy’s Express has car wash locations in states across the U.S., including in Texas, Colorado, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, and elsewhere, per a locations tool on the company’s website. A Tommy’s Express location opened at 4700 Devine St. in Columbia back in 2022. The company also is currently building a location on Mineral Springs Road in Lexington.
The spot where the new car wash is planned on Spears Creek Church Road is near a host of businesses, including a Scoop of Heaven ice cream shop, a Carolina Fish & Wings restaurant and host of other retailers. It’s just north of Interstate 20, and about 16,000 cars per day travel down that stretch of Spears Creek Church Road, per state Department of Transportation data.
