A 6-year-old was found with a loaded gun on a school bus Tuesday morning in South Carolina, and the child’s mother was arrested, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

Destar Hall, 35, was charged with unlawful conduct toward a child, the sheriff’s department said in a news release.
At about 7:30 a.m., the school resource officer for JP Thomas Elementary School was called after a 6-year-old was found with a loaded firearm on a school bus, according to the release. The Richland 1 school is at 6001 Weston Ave. in Columbia.
The gun was an AR pistol with .556 rounds, according to the release.
The sheriff’s department said that the gun was safely taken away from the child, and no injuries were reported.
Hall, the child’s mother, was called to the school, and it was discovered that the gun wasn’t properly secured by Hall at their residence, according to the release.

Hall was taken into custody and was brought to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center where she was held while waiting for a bond hearing, the sheriff’s department said.
Information was not available about what happened to the child after Hall was locked up. There was no word if the 6-year-old will face any discipline from the school or district.
