24-year-old man found in an SC road, but he wasn’t killed in a crash, police say

A 24-year-old man was killed Monday in South Carolina, and one shooting suspect has been located while a search continues for another wanted person, according to the Sumter Police Department.

Sumter County resident Leroy Rashawn Bradford died from a gunshot wound, Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker said.

At about 11:45 a.m., officers responded to reports of a shooting on East Charlotte Avenue, in the Anne Park community, police said in a news release. Officers found the 24-year-old victim injured in the road, according to the release.

Bradford was taken to an area hospital where he died, police said. An autopsy will be performed at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, according to Baker.

Soon after Bradford was found in the road, a vehicle connected to the shooting was spotted by officers before it crashed into a pole on Andrena Drive, according to the release. Two people inside the wrecked vehicle got out and ran, according to the release.

One of the suspects was located nearby and placed in custody, police said. That person has not been publicly identified, and there was no word about any charges.

Officers are continuing to try and identify and locate the second person who ran from the crash, according to the release. Both police and the coroner’s office are continuing to investigate the shooting death.
