But if you are looking to keep it “Real,” head to Bush River Road. Real Mexico has, for many years, been delighting diners from its unassuming but charming restaurant at 2421 Bush River Road, just east of Interstate 20.

The eatery is often bursting with customers, particularly on the weekends. So much so that parking can sometimes be an adventure (IYKYK). But once you get a table, you’ll be rewarded with a menu loaded with quesadillas, burritos, tortas, street tacos, fajitas, flautas, cerveza and more.
My go-to at Real Mexico has always been, and remains, the California burrito. That’s a 12-inch flour tortilla filled with carne asada steak, avocado slices, pico de gallo, rice and beans. It’s a 100% flavor missile, rolled tight and stuffed with tasty ingredients. Real Mexico remains a Bush River Road legend.
