A 69-year-old man has been identified as the victim of a fatal moped crash that occurred recently in Lexington.

Michael Bailey Vines, of Lexington, died when the moped he was driving ran off the right side of South Lake Drive, Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher said in a news release Thursday, May 28. Vines, who was not wearing a helmet, was ejected from the moped during the May 21 accident, the news release said. He was pronounced dead after being transported to a local hospital.
“The Lexington County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol continue to investigate the incident,’’ the May 28 news release said. “Our condolences go out to the family and friends of Mr. Vines. ‘’

The single-vehicle crash happened at about 9:45 a.m. on May 21, according to the Highway Patrol. Information about what caused the crash remains unavailable.
