The project is intended to increase manufacturing capacity for the company’s fiber-optic cable and support growing U.S. demand for advanced connectivity solutions.

Other investments have also been announced in North Carolina and Tennessee. In total, the combined projects are expected to create 600 U.S. manufacturing jobs.

“Prysmian’s decision to expand in Lexington reflects the strength of our local workforce and the environment our community has built to support advanced manufacturing,” said Pro-Tem Todd Carnes, Lexington’s mayor. “This $80 million investment will bring 130 new jobs to the area while creating opportunities for local families and contributing to Lexington’s continued economic growth. We’re excited to see Prysmian deepen its roots here and be part of the community’s future.”

This isn’t the first expansion the Lexington facility has gone through. Back in 2017, Prysmian invested $15 million to make the Lexington facility one of the nation’s highest producers of fiber cable in the world, according to the SC Department of Commerce.

“By expanding our manufacturing capabilities here, we’re investing in the infrastructure and skilled workforce needed to support rapidly growing connectivity demands. We’re proud to continue growing alongside the Lexington community and creating new opportunities in the region,” said Andrea Pirondini, the CEO of Prysmian North America in a statement.

The construction should take a little less than two years to complete, according to the news release. The group expects to be done by the first half of 2028.
